Steve Reeves theory on bodybuilding was gaining size while maintaining the same measurements on your arms, neck and calves. The thighs and waist were also tied in but I cannot remember exactly how. My question to you all is, this concept has gone out the window in the sport today do you think it should be brought back to keep symmetry or are the body builders today bigger and better than those of the past?

Dude....Steve Reeves is the MAN, His physique is one of my favorites without a doubt.

On to your question! I think you'll get a lot of mixed replies on that subject but i am a huge fan of old school. There are some present physiques i really like where guys hold a lot of balance ex. Jason Huh i think has this combination he uses vacuum along with poses other than the mandatories. Some guys of the new era put it together but it seems like it becomes more and more difficult because of everyone just trying to get bigger and bigger. As far as JUDGING that criteria i believe there is a LOT less emphasis on who is the most balanced vs the ton of emphasis/freak factor of mass. I had faith in the IFBB physique division thinking it would be like the old school posing trunks/slightly less conditioned less size but it ended up just looking like a muscular model class which is just stupid in my opinion. :insane2:

This is what it should be about..

Beast- The new school seems to have forgotten about symmetry and the hour glass figure. Look at Jay Cutler for example, when he's not posing he doesn't seem to ever be comfortable. He has a distended torso and his upper body hardly mirrors his legs. I prefer the old school as well; Arnold, Gaspari, Furigno ect. Those guys all had the perfect physique. I posted this to get a defense from the new school but it is a;ways nice to see there are like minded people out there.

Steve Reeves - talk about genetically gifted! I'm a huge fan of Reeves. Think about back in his day - how far ahead of everyone the guy was...crazy!

Of course Arnie and his contemporaries took everything that was available to them back then, so I wonder if they'd had everything we have today, what their physiques would look like...

Here are a few shots of Reeves...check out the friggin' waistline!

The man was a beast amongst men in his hay day. He was natural too, think what he could have looked like on gear?

Anold once said "Yes I used steroids, but the amount we used back then wasn't half of the doses these new guys are using." They had gear but it as rough and watered down by todays standards. It makes me sick when you compliment a pick of old body builders and the first thing out of some noobs mouth is "I wonder what he was on"

Society has this outlook on gear like it's this wonder drug that people take and get freaking huge then it kills them. They couldn't be any farther off from the truth. I wish there was a way to educate people.

Haha I dunno about Reeves being completely natty - he did introduce Larry Scott to dbol.

And Arnie took pretty massive quantities of primo and dbol (his 2 favorites).

The bottom line though is that these guys did have incredibly aesthetic physiques.
