lets see how many of you do 20 rep squats???

also known as widow makers, man-breakers, ball busters... one of the most intense exercises if done correctly.

i love them. takes so much drive. its a real challenge.

I've been getting so many weird looks lately because there's not much weight on the bar (HELL YOURE DOING 20 OF THEM!).
:dance2:

just wanna see who does them and what you think!

As a swimmer, I preform 2 sets of my squats at a low/moderate weight 20 reps and 1 set heavy at 6-10 reps to build the strength and power needed while in the water.

the way to go is 12 to 16..20 is a bit much

20 rep is a set that a lot of older BBers have used with great success.

I know the "correct" rep ranges and train accordingly but this is a great way to stimulate growth. Tom Platz actually used this and he had big legs before big legs were "in"

its a specifically purposed exercise - not meant to be the dominating theme of your workout.

you take one set and one set only and throw on a weight that you have to grind out. by rep 12 you should feel it, 15 your should be hurting and the last 2 or 3 you should be grinding HARD.

its not your "standard" exercise

Used to do them a lot but i have not for a long time i like the high reps for a change my PB on these is 220 for 20 reps :Puke: thanks for a reminder :yesway:

CHEERS GT

20 reps how many sets?? im going to try this next leg day. Is this the frist exercise you do or you do them med way? i was doing 8 sets 8 reps after worming up the legs on a tredmill as much weight as you can do 8*8

there are few routines out there but i use it to start my leg workout - the rest is icing on the cake ;)

its one set. and don't be afraid to challenge yourself, but you'll only use about 50% your 1RM - but thats just a guess. for your first time if you're doing it with your bodyweight on the bar thetas pretty good - IMO

but yeah - one set, 20 reps. it usually goes something like this...

1-5 - okay - no biggie, getting warmed up
6-10 - alright feels good, starting to get a little burn
11-14 - getting a little difficult
15-17 - alright its in my head now, i don't think i can do any more
18... so tired...
19... almost....
20. wow.

when you get done you should be exhausted, legs burning, breathing hard, etc.

its very stressful if done right.

you can't add much weight each week but try to add between between 5 and ten pounds.

you can also use it as an occasional training method to shock your body - just keep your eye on your weight

I mix it up as much as possible...20 rep sets are awesome at the end of the exercise for an ultimate burn. I remember getting ready for one of my bodybuilding shows and my training partners came walking into the gym and over to the squat rack with a bucket and sponge. I asked...obviously...what the bucket and sponge was for and they just replied "for you", and I asked why?

100 rep set of squats!

The worst set ever! I had to stop to throw up, lift, throw up...the sponge was to wipe my mouth and chin so I didn't look like a slob.

There's been several times I'm feeling good and do the "2 more" all the way up to 15. But never done 20. My PB is 315x15. Never squat too heavy though because it kills my knees. Any suggestions for this? maybe wraps?

I wrap when I go above 315, usually do 10 reps with 405-455 wrapped and belted up with a spotter for the last few...then fall to the ground on your ass, unwrap the knees and belt, and feel oh so good!!!!

I like to struggle to put up the weight. Although the burn of doing any more than 15 with good resistance is probably crazy.

20+ reps no thanks...

Squats yesterday was:

Warmups with 135 then
225x12
315x10
405x8
455x6
495x4

I do put a belt on for anything over 400 but none of this knee wrap pussy shit.

this thread is really giving me some motivation to hit my legs harder. i always knew i was lacking in my legs... but DAMN

keep it up 'errybody

225x20 ass to the floor. love it
gives my quads a killer pump.
Usually do high rep legs at least once
a month.
I'm at to 225x15 on front squats. Thats
torture for me as a finishing exercise.
