Doc recommended varicocele surgery.

During my quest to find a knowledgeable TRT doc, I met with a specialist who naturally wanted to check out my junk. He found something that none of the other docs who've done a testicular exam noticed. A Varicocele on the left side. He said this could be the reason for my Low testosterone, or at least a contributor. He recommended surgery and stated he's seen other patients' testosterone jump a fair amount once the problem has been corrected.

Even if it only reduces the amount of test I have to take, I might consider the surgery (after a 2nd opinion, of course).

Has anyone here had personal experience with this, and if so, what were your results?

You should understand that if you go on TRT, the ability of your testicles to produce testosterone won't matter much... the hormones that signal production will be suppressed.

What are your levels now? I would look into the surgery, but if you're committed to going on TRT it is not likely to be worth it unless varioceles carry risks beyond reduced testosterone.

I started at 200 TTL, went on TRT briefly at 100mg once per week, which bumped my TTL to 340. I stopped after my Endo panicked when my hematocrit jumped and she wanted to reduce my dose. I was seeing no benefits at 100mg per week, but had all the usual side effects, so it made no sense to continue on a proposed reduced dose. Hence the search for a new doctor.

Just wondering if others who had the surgery saw enough of an increase to not need TRT.

Hello my friend, i had surgery for varicossele in the left testicle before one year.

I had also low testosterone and zero sperm count because i had first degree varicossele.

I was feeling like i had 1 kg in my testicles all the time and i was in a lot of pain.

After the surgery my sperm count increased from zero to 2.000.000 it was still low but i had sperm.

My test levels increased but very little.

I have hypogonadism from abusing steroids.

If you have varicossele you should make the surgery.

Mine was small at the begining but after 6 months veins got bigger and i was in pain. After the surgery i was fine.

I got better with the surgery but only for my sperm count .
My test is still low. I have secondary hypo and i have just begin Trt

Thanks for the reply George. I was in constant pain for about 6 years, but it has now subsided, so I don't think mine is getting worse. I'll have to do a bunch of research, but unless the pain returns or there's a good chance my testosterone levels will increase substantially, I'll likely refrain from getting the surgery. I had a vasectomy years ago, so sperm count is not an issue for me.

I hope you get better in the future and everything go well for you.

I will be here to help you with details if you ever do the surgery :)
