Gear or no Gear, it is hard to get to the Gym

I had a workout partner who pushed me and I would push him, now his wife does not like him gone every day so I am solo. It was better with a partner because you could push each-other, do you find it hard going solo and pushing yourself?

I would say get another work out partner or do what I do and bring an ipod to the gym. If your buddy is whipped then that's on him. He's sacraficing his health though. Why doesn't he have his wife join the gym, then they can both workout and feel good about themselves. What I do is listen to my heavy metal on my ipod and it gets me psyched to workout.

i dont like working out with anyone. slows me down. you gotta wait for him to get done with his reps change the weights... then talk about betty the blonde what you wish you wouldve taken home last saturday night. not to mention you have to cooridnate available times to go. Then i bet it sucks the first day that something came up for your partner and u work out alone, have to change your schedule around to maybe light work outs so you dont need a spotter. rather do it alone f all that drama. I never max out on anything so dont care for a spot. if i do ill just ask one of the 15 dudes in the gym with me.

its all about having the right workout partner jonas...

if you have some jackass who wants to socialize and mess around all workout long then its all non-sense

as for your issue, remember you have to think about yourself before you let someone else motivate you.. it has to come from you.. it has to be your drive..

dont worry we will have your diet going soon and results = more motivation!!!

I had some good buddies that I use to train with but since I moved I been on my own. I got to know most of the guys at the new gym so I can get a decent spot when I need one. Working alone aint so so bad because I don't have to wait longer between sets than I use to. I do miss having someone to train with tho.

Yeah I preferred my buddy as a work out partner cause we rock the same weight but just the same I liked just throwing the songlist on random and just train. With ear plugs in people tend to not talk to me about their horrible job or something.

3j nailed it..I miss my training partner in the gym..we would say chest ? Yeah...ear plug s in and do it..we would not even have to speak...
Other than that I get help when I need it..

I agree with funky. Partners slow me down and leaves room for bull shitting. Anyway, I usually don't have the energy to workout everyday but I have found that a pre workout drink (white flood, etc) helps get the motivation and energy up. And like someone said, bring an iPod.

I have not had a workout partner for over 8 years and can tell you it is much better to lift by yourself. The only advantage to lifting with someone is that it's much easier to talk yourself into cutting your workout short if your not feeling it that day. When your accountable for someone else you might squeeze out those last two sets or do that last excercise that you planned to. However I have found my workouts to be much shorter and intense by myself. I just throw some Slipknot or 50 on the Ipod crank it and go to war. I have also been able to utilize my time with less rest between sets or supersets on my own. 30 to 45 minutes and I'm done. My workouts with my buddy were at least an hour and a half.

i never workout better than when i have a partner that's stronger than me

i second this, i had the same workout partner for a good year and he was always riding my coat-tails on weights. But once i started going with someone stronger than me i found myself pushing it harder and constantly trying to keep up and excel

alone here also...pantera, system of a down, slip and im good to go. If i cant get to the gym I will do 3 sets of 100 pushups and use the bowflex and maybe some situps and bicycles..

I just feel that I am pushed more when there is someone there and someone who can say, you can't lift that much, your body is saying yes but your mind is saying no. Thanks to the test that makes you feel the barbells in the gym are no longer enough, where are the 200LBS barbells :0

Other than chest day i prefer lifting alone...when i used to work out with my buddy it was grate...i was pushing myself harder and getting the best work out but it didnt work out for too long since its hard to blend 2 workout plans together when one of you miss a day once in a while like funky said (btw funky thats some crazy gyno you got there on the pic)

Than after working out solo for a year i decided to take that one guy with me since i started a cycle and wanted to push myself harder...he was a noob and after a week i almost kicked his ass in the gym for asking me 100 time the same question what is this for or how to do that etc...now he walks to the other side of a sidewalk when he sees me

I liked going with someone, we only worked out once together every 6 days or so as they spotted me, but we still WENT together and it was motivating. We were room mates so that helped scheduling, and we were both single at the time.

So yes in an ideal world I like going with someone when you are on the same page, or maybe you don't train directly together like we didn't. Staying on the boards, watching a BB video from time to time and keeping in touch with workout buddies helps keep me not just going, but not wasting time in the gym, and keeping my diet somewhat on track. My wife doesn't understand the video aspect but I like it for motivation, Branch Warren doesn't have a long vocabulary beyond "light weight motherfucker" but I still like to see him beat himself up, it reminds me to do the same instead of just showing up.

Loud violent music in my ears also helps keep me awake, gotta have that.

That's funny bro sometimes I go to the gym on my lunch break and get in and out with short high intensity weight sessions being that I only have 45 minutes to be there. I still constantly have coworkers come up to me who have never touched a weight in their lives tell me they want to go with me the next time I go. Needless to say as far as they know I've never gone to the gym again.

no i workout at home 99.99% of the time.
I rahter be left alone and let lift. I can push myself just fine.
i do like pre-workout drinks though to give me a bit of a boost.
my faves right now is the N2KTS and guranimo
heres alink maybe it can help you out:

good luck

i used to only be able to work out with my buddy, could never get the motivation to do it alone

moved because of a new job, had to make friends....for a couple weeks i was working out alone and i just made it work. just shifted from the whole "motivate and pump up your workout buddy by talking shit to each other" to focusing on my ipod music to keep me pumped

its really all in your head, mentally if you have that animal desire to lift you can have great workouts by yourself or with someone else
