Sub-Q inject advice

mo'primo

do what?
First time subcutaneous shot coming up. I'll be using a 28g M-F for AM injections. Along with reading up on the subject I'd appreciate any advice from you experienced GH users. Rotate injections by 5cm? Angle the needle closer to 45 or 90 degrees? Inject slow or fast? Etc.

thanx in advance as always :santa:

I would just rotate spots, so you never hit the same spot in a week, which should be easy. Pinch the fat in the lower abdomen, stick slin pin straight in, i aspirate everywhere, then i inject fairly fast as water solutions fly thru slin pins.

Agree with everything except the aspiration, there's absolutely no reason to......

Never was really too sure on the aspiration, just figured better safe than sorry, it cant hurt.

one nursing source did recommend aspirating to make sure the needle is not in a blood vessel

Depends on how much fat you have. Not many veins to worry about and blood vessels aren't scarce but shouldn't be a problem either.

Aspirating is totally unecessary for subq injections. The only reason to do them even when injecting IM is if and only if the solution you are injecting would cause problems if put into a blood vessel (i.e. oil based hormones). Next time you get a IM flu shot, notice how they don't aspirate. It's bc it prob doesn't matter if you mainline a flu vaccine.

Most nurses know the sites so well that they either dont bother aspirating or they just flick the plunger quick. I talked to a RN about this and he told me most wont bother aspirating after a while, even though they are taught to.
