What influenced you?

Several people have a story as to what influenced them to change their lifestyle to becoming a bodybuilder or just overall, healthy. What was your inspiration to change your lifestyle to what it is today?

For me I was like 14, was always very thin as a child & at 14 I looked like I was probably 12... My mom gave me all kids of weight gainers & nothing worked, "I guess I was a late bloomer".. I was watching the news one day & there was a story about women & fitness, I remember watching these women, they were fit, muscular, but still femenine.. I told my mom I thought they looked great & that I wanted to look like that, she told me "I don't think they look good"...
I started doing light weigths with my older sister & (not sure if it was my body developing)But I put on like 10 lbs, and looked more defined, It was during summer vacation (I think I was in 7th or 8th grade)

That was when I realized I liked how these women looked, I liked the look of muscle, & defenition. It was what inspired & opened my eyes to wanting to be part of this lifestyle.

Yeah I just remember watching the Von Erich family thinking yeah that's what I want to look like. Throw in an Ultimate Warrior to round things out & that was it. Little did I know the amount of drive dedication & discipline required. I'm still on that journey. We all are just at our own individual pace.

I was 18, 158 pound..long haired, stoned 24/7, driving a 69 Chevelle german cat dating THE cheerleader..MUCH TO THE CHAGRIN OF THE FOOTBALL HEROES.
I was a soccer star in Germany..in Mississippi that meant shit in in 1982.
My roomie was a 220 powerlifter military dude(I had my own pad at 17).
After getting pummeled, Joey took me to the gym and the day he taught me how to deadlift I pulled 325 and the next day squatted 3oo after learning how to do it that same day.
4 years later I was a shredded 193 pause benching 350, squatting 600 and pulling 635.
3 years later ripped 217 won mr ....and the Southern Collegiate light heavy..geared oughtta my head..of course.
Now I m feeble frail and snortin geritol and viagra..

Cancer influenced me, it was a silver lining because now I'm as healthy as I've ever been. Been going hardcore for almost a full two years now and no signs of letting up.

Can't do the gear for obvious reasons but I'm as hard and lean as I have ever been.

I was 29 in great shape, 5'9" 205 15-17%bf just got engaged and found out that I had cancer. Two months later I had surgery followed by another surgery two years later. In the mean time my weight balloned up to 245 and then my dad dropped dead at 54 which woke me up big time. I started working towards getting myself back into shape but didn't take it too serious until after my wife had my son 3 years ago. Since then the two of us have been in the gym busting our asses. I feel better now at almost 40 then I did back then at 29 my wife is in the best shape of her life also. That's my story...

i was in the 7th grade, i wrestled in school, i got to the finals match of the county tournement and lost (that gave me chillbumps typing that) because he was in better shape. i told myself i would never lose again. since that day i have lost 6 matches. i do not like being embarassed like i was that day. then i too lost my father at age 55, it was directly related to not taking care of himself. i have a child, i do not want my child to see me die that young. im here to stay. thats my story...

I picked up a bodybuilding magazine when I was in the 6th grade...so around 11 years old. Thought it was awesome. Started lifting at home (no idea what I was doing) a couple of years later. At 15 or 16 I started to actually read the magazines (not just look at the pictures) and joined a gym. I have never been huge, but my interest in lifting has been life-long.

Wow, that's awesome!

I was not always the small kid, I remember in like 2nd or 3rd grade I was probably the fastest kid on the playground. Then everyone grew up except me. Soon I was the kid that was picked last in gym class. So I gave up on trying to be athletic, I was cool instead. Pot smokin, guitar playin, long hair bicycle gang kid. As I got older pot lead to other things and other things lead to heroin. I was a junkie for 5 years. I tried to get clean many times but I just wasn't ready. Then one day it just happened for me. With the help of methadone I was completely clean in a few months. I felt stronger mentally then I had ever been. I wanted to be strong physically too. So first I changed my diet, started eating and researching healthy foods. Then I got a gym membership and the rest is history.

I have always been small I was 6'1 130 lbs and in H.S. i actually was able to drop down to 127 and 119 once. I was influenced to be bigger and look my very best when my ex fiance left me cuz she decided she wanted to hang with her friends and fuck random strangers then settle down. well it kinda hit my pride when i found pics of other guys that didnt look pathetically skinny on her phone before it ended. I started working out like crazy inspite of her and know ive actually feel like i need to work out and want to be bigger constantly. I love the way I look at a nice 190 but my goal is 210. I have been working out my whole life pretty much just now I do it for size not just to be toned. i might catch heat for this but im just being honest.

For me, it's about being healthy. I don't want to be 6' 1" 275 lbs etc.... I just like to be in shape and healthy cardiovascular wise and respiratory.

I was 14 freshman in high school, 5'8 120lbs. got sick of people telling me that i was mad skinny. it happened on a day to day basis, after a while it pissed me off and my fathers been lifting for yrs, so i came home one day an said "dad i want to get jacked" lol ever since then Ive been lifting haven't stopped since an don't plan on stopping anytime soon. The weights are my best friend, they don't talk shit and they don't bitch.

I couldnt bench 135lbs in highschool....every guy in my class could but me...that was 20yrs ago now my arms are 20inches and those guys are fat slobs...i see them in the gym now...all fat and sloppy...i got the last laff...hahahahahaha..punks

I grew up idolizing Rocky Balboa and pro wrestlers. Began lifting in hi school football at 16 yrs old, 5'7", 125lbs. By the time I was 22 I was coming to the conclusion that the last 6yrs had very little effect on my LBM @ 145lbs so my natural test must have been fucked up since puberty.

So I sought after juice, determined to change my body from adolescent looking still, to as optimal with size gains as I can genetically squeeze on to my thin frail bone structure. PLUS, ex girlfriends talking shit about me having a "boy" body. I strive to NOT be as such
