Is it more relaxing now that you don't compete? I know you probably enjoyed competing, but does taking the competition out of it make it more relaxing of a hobby?
I always loved competing, but it definitely rules your life. How frequently you have to eat, have to supplement, have to train, have to tan, have to practice routines... It is very time consuming...life consuming.
Because of the "me" focus, it is very self-absorbing by nature and without trying, you become very selfish, knowing that you have to meet all of the needs I mentioned above. I am always amazed that relationships work during contest preparation. I could not have devoted any time to a relationship when I was competing.
Now, I don't stress about meals or supps. I eat pretty well, but I don't have to worry about 6 or 7 meals a day. 4 meals a day does the job just fine.
I am more relaxed, but that is in part because I am older and have a better perspective on the importance of things. Priorities are different now. I love the gym, I love training, and I loved competing, but those things have to find the proper place in one's life.
One thing that I do miss about competing, is that there is no urgency about reaching certain goals in size or conditioning. The contest "forced" me into a specific timeline of accomplishment. Sure, I can set those goals now, but it's not the same (for me, at least).
