Do you beat your kids?

I'm bored so I figured I'd ask you guys to maybe incite some good convo... or even a riot.

My wife is working a case that had her a little on edge this week so i figured I'd ask you parents what your thoughts were on disciplining your kids. Spanking OK? Whoopings with a belt? Or a switch like we used to get when we were kids?

How far is too far? When its based more off anger and less off disciplining the child? I know times have changed, but i figured I'd ask.

Now, before we get rolling, lets not get all holier than thou and just state your opinion. If you think someone beating their kid is wrong, just say that, don't get all high on the hog Im better than you and you shouldn't beat your kid if that is your thought.


I'm a new parent and I'm always curious to hear other parents thoughts on this. But if it gets retarded I'll have the staff delete the shit.

im a smacker on the asser.. i raise my voice when i have to and thats about all it takes most of the time.. i have 2 daughters.. 5yrs old and 4months old..and a 15yr old nephew who i consider my son (long story) i dont let my kids Veg out on the computer or watch a shitload of TV.. i expect them to eat what their mother cooked.. instead playing video games and shit she goes outside and catches ladybugs or jumps in mud puddles..

I was beat with an apple stick until my legs would bleed. This happened about 12-15 times. We grew up on a large working dairy farm. I asked my Dad one day why the whippings were so severe. He said that is what my dad did and his dad before him.
Doesnt make it right. It just makes it understandable.

I thought the whippins were a little severe but I was a perdy stuburn SOB.

I am all for spanking a child within reason.
Spare the rod spoil the child.
I think the punishment can range from mild to reasonable discomfort for a child. Otherwise that is the limit for my level of discipline.

I will smack my kids on the ass as a last resort, it makes me feel like crap every time I have had to do it. My kids are 7 and 3-1/2 and are a handful, but they are well behaved and respectful to others. My grandmother used to whack me with a garden hose that hurt like a bitch...old school

I dont have kids yet....But I know my parents ended up disabled while I was young, I did not get any more whippins when I know I shoulda....I would have turned out better for it. My kids will be disciplined, but I will wait to whip them until I am calm. My plans is when they do something dangerous or wrong enough to deserve it, they will sit in a specific chair in a corner and think about whats coming as I go calm down, meditate on it and plan how best to explain to them WHY they are getting this punishment.

It will be my hand up to a belt depending. Hand for correctional, belt for anything stupid of an almost crime level(they steal, they will not sit for a week...Worked me on). Obviously not trying to hurt them in a lasting physical manner, but work into their mind right and wrong the old fashioned way. You know, the way that worked.

All these psychology spewing inbreds need to jump off a bridge, there is a reason this generation is downright mindless and out of control.

i would never hit my little girl. EVER. and ive never ran across the time when i would have needed to even if i was a beater. She is 4 so that day may come yet, but ill never lay a hand on her.

same goes for the wife. Ive been ready to slice her throat in a fight, but have had enough restraint to not lay a finger on her ever. But this is off topic

a spanking here and there if nothing else works but you should know the difference and not get out of control with it.mostly sit down and explain to your kids why what they did was wrong and take away fun time or toys stuff like that stuff they will remember and understand that they can't do wrong stuff or act any ole way they what to.and get them early or you will have serious problems later on but don't over do it or that can create other issues as well.

Yes. If he misbehaves, he gets spanked. He is only a year and a half but needs a spankin when hes bad. He will usually cry but not from the spank but because I made him stop whatever he was doing.
I just believe that if you spank them when they are young, they will listen better later. He already knows that I raise my voice before the spanking comes and because of this he is begining to learn to stop before the spank.

as for the children who 'own' there parents, these are the kids that are the ones usually being spanked, they 'own' their parents because the parenting is weak

if the parent has set expectations, limits, and subsequent consequences, all through verbal communication.....the hand should never have to be raised
