WTF?..what?HE claims HE has done 17 years but clarely doesnt understand prison is a violent place with or without weights and the mind of an imate needs an outlet with something constructive.Also the discipline aspect of it If you give the inmate something positive they will police it them selves and protect it....believe me if this like the weight room will be the first thing taken away then commaserry and others.

I voted yes, though I agree with some of the exceptions people have suggested. Rapists... prolly shouldn't have access to facilities that will aid them at re-offending, as well as other people who are at high risk for re-offending and would benefit (criminally speaking) from the increased strength. Otherwise, if the inmates are well behaved I say sure let them lift.

And MM you neg reped me for "false info"of my statement that the incarcerated population has increased 10 fold in some states.Well prove me wrong!I gave you my references and you told me they werent good enough...but thats my theory so prove me wrong...show me some data that USA hasent had a steady increase in the number of inmate in the last 20+years...USA has the highest incarceration rate in the world,1 and every 31 citizens are in 1 form or another in the correctional system!

I just want to touch on something...This was a great thread MM,it had a lot of good opinions from many different angles.We heard from former and current CO's, ex-cons,and normal citizens with opposing views to give a well round opinionated thread...and it got me to thinking after talking with a few bro's and reading there responses that the iron actually help me better my self,I got into a little trouble as a kid and it followed me for a while and a payed the price and did my time.But inside I had a huge hunger for reading and got my hands on some magazines about BB and health and from that point till know I used lifting to keep sane and my actions in check.

Like I said...I've worked in corrections and I've witnessed very few individuals that have been rehabilitation and truly benefited from the correctional system

The majority...I'd say about 75% will go back and re offend. Its really up to the individual. They need to decide to change.

I use to workout with the inmates... and in my observation it did not make them more aggressive but allowed them to burn off some energy and actually put most of them in a better mood after a workout.

Yes. And I think physical rehabilitation is great. However like I said I think it is a luxury and their are other ways to use physical exercise as rehabilitation.

Our justice system is completely messed up.

I agree with cyto, non-violent offenders, yea no problem. Rapist, Murders..100% no. Id personally put them all too death is they are without a doubt guilty.

EXACTLY! The thing is that a hundred years ago all someone had to do was tell someone you raped a child and they would take you out back of your own house and hang your ass on the spot.

Most people forget that the "weak" justice system we have today has only been around for a very very short time in US history

After the girl gets pissed cause the guy dumps her ass, she runs and tells daddy "some evil man raped me", and BOOM..25 years behind bars. Now thats a screwed up justice system folks

Lol. Tell us more. I can't disagree that I've seen this. Not in the bigger prisons but I've heard about this in some smaller facilities...min and med. However in Max and SupMax rapists are actual child rapists where the kids are young like 6. I've never heard of anyone getting 25 years for having sex with a teenager who consented though.
