Female advice

I need some female advice to help my wife. She is contemplating surgery i.e. tummy tuck. I am trying to figure out if there is a better alternative to her trouble areas than an astringent surgery. The troubled area is mainly the belly area after having a child almost ten years ago. I thought var might help give her a boost. She has an awesome work ethic and trains vigorously (cardio/weight training). Her diet is very good. What more can a hubby ask for. I think she looks great the way she is but is always striving to get her tummy flat. So to sum it up would var possibly be better than surgery? Thanks for any advice!
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 145 lbs.

5'7" and 145? This cannot be just from having kids. I am 5'8" and 119lbs, I am on the thin side, yes, but I have also had a kid. I have seen that some women have rippling on their stomach from it getting stretched while preg. Diet cannot get rid of this - to my knowledge, anyways. I would try to get in touch with 3J for diet advise. It seems a lot of people THINK they are getting the right foods into their body but are not at ALL. Do you have any photos of her or know her BF%? I want to know how much of the weight is fat and muscle because you stated she trains vigorously. Also, can you post her current diet and workout routine? I know the ladies will ask for this info first. IMO-10yrs after having a baby and right diet and training - you cannot blame the weight on the pregnancy at this point. Has she had her thyroid checked?

Sassy, that isn't helpful advice, what's wrong with her height and weight? People would argue that you're under weight... You have no idea how much of her weight is muscle, fat, water weight, bone size etc.. comments like that is what gives women a complex!

OP, maybe get your wife to join and give a full account of her diet and exercise regime. She may eat great food but if it isn't in balance with her activities then she will gain unwanted weight. If she can give more details we can give more informed advice.

Hi Welcome,

Var will not give her a "flat tummy", diet & excercise will. Losing weight is really 80 % diet. Her tummy will "look" flat once she lowers her body fat & diet is the main thing that can make this happen.

Sometimes we think we are doing everything right, (training/diet) & we ask ourselves why aren't we getting the results we're looking for, we might "think" we are doing everything right, to later fnd out we're not.
If she's not showing progress reaching her goals I say she needs to re-evaluate & tweak her diet & training.
I would have her join, & she can post her diet & training routine.

Even if she choses to do surgery, she needs to have a solid foundation & have these two factors dialed in, so would be able to maintain her results from surgery.

I would hold off on surgery & have her try to lose the weight naturally, it can be done.

Good luck to her,
Hope she joins :)

Sassy,

I wouldn't call 5'7 145 lbs overweight, someone can be 119 lbs 5'7 & have a higher bf than someone that weighs 145 at the same height.
Many factors come into play when it comes to bf % & weight.

I'm 5'7 and 143. I actually think I look pretty great at that weight. Mrs. P and Detour have both seen my tummy and it's rockin' flat after two kids back to back. :) (op, I'm in my 30's as well). Not trying to jump all over you Sassie, but you can't compare other's stats to yourself. I believe healthy bodies come in all shaped and sizes. Op's wife likely does work hard, which is all the more reason op turned to a site such as this.

Op, my tummy stretched from here to kingdom come after my two. They are 18 months and 2 days apart. Diet and excercise played a huge roll in recovering, but so did a good skin care regimine. I'm not saying it's magic, but exfoliated and hydrated skin looks and feels much healthier. I use a home made skin scrub to exfoliate and follow up generously with a moisturizer I love. My favorite is actually dr. palmers tummy butter (i love the way it smells).

If your wife is having reservations about a skin tuck, I'd suggest to dial in the diet a bit and try a good skin care exfoliation and hydration. She may find she likes the results. Good luck!

Hey! Sorry didn't mean it in a negative way... Thats why I asked her bf%. 145 at 5'7" could be either muscle weight or fat weight. That is why I wanted him to clarify. He said she trains vigorously so I assume that it is muscle but I wanted clarity so advise can be given. I understand I am on the thin side and would need to bulk in order to show definition and muscle tone. I also know that if her diet is not correct and if training vigorously means running one or twice a week that her bf could be high. Sorry if it came out wrong!!! =)

I'm wondering if it's just fat on the stomach area or is it loose skin from stretching?

I wonder too, if her skin streched a lot during preg, & she had a lot of weight gain during preg, it might be lose skin that won't go back fully to it's pre-pregnancy state.

Your tummy looks amazing girl ;)

If it is just loose skin, a tummy tuck may be a good option - but peptides could possibly help as well, since a few of them tend to show skin tightening as one of the benefits. But it would be a slow process, results would take a while (years possibly), and she may not have the desired results you wants.... but a tummy tuck will leave scarring that she may not want either. So I guess you have to weight the pros and cons....

Jenner - love the new ab pic!!! Great definition/cut :)

Exactly, and then tummy tuck may be only option...unfortunately diet can't fix everything :(

I know, if it's fat she has then, diet will help her, but if it's hanging lose skin, then she might need a procedure to fix it.

I did mention this. I don't know if anything besides a procedure can get rid of the preg stretching?

We need to know her BF and routine/diet.

I just read more of the criticism I received on asking fr more info...

I completely understand that all women are built differently. One women at 145 and 5'7" could be in awesome shape (see most of the ladies here), but on the other hand a different woman, could be 25%BF and that would be the issue and a tummy tuck wouldn't be necessary, a diet or routine change would be needed instead. I was merely trying to get more information in order to give advise. Seeing as it could be either or.

Comparing your weight with hers pointing out the same height difference - how was that meant to come across? Some people won't take it as you may have intended, Just saying..

OP, hope she joins. Great people here with great advice, it's lovely that he loves his wife as is, she probably has the classic 'condition' of seeing herself differently to the way other people do. Good luck.

Criticism from who Sassy ? Sorry u feel like that, I don't see who criticised u honestly, we are just pointing out how weight doesn't define someone's bf and how other factors come into play.

I welcome all females & encourage interaction, we are here to learn from each other.

I wanted to add something on the tummy tuck part. I have a male family member that lost 130lbs in a year. This was 15 years ago prior to the gastric bypass (at least the frequency of it) and all that. He was very obese and made a lifestyle change. Lost everything thru diet and excercise, but that much skin would never go back. He did have a tummy tuck, which was the best decision. Almost no scar was visible after the heaing process, but I remember the recovery being pretty intense for him. Things may have changed a great deal now due to medical advances.

Sometimes, it can be the best answer. My suggestion would be to really weigh all the options and pros and cons of surgery.

Most tummy tucks involve some liposuction and also tightening of the muscles in the abdominal wall. Unless it is a "mini-tuck"

Many times a distended stomach (especially after pregnancy) is due not to fat but to muscle distention and skin.

There is currently a laser treatment they can do to restore elasticity to skin but requires 5-6 treatment at $800-$1000 for each treatment.

Surgery is the only way to remove and tighten the skin and muscles back. Although if you gain or lose 10-15 lbs after the surgery many times it is ruined. So be sure you are at a consistent weight prior to even considering it.

Anabolics will do none of this.

How many kids have you had blondie? Just curious, I see your stomach has a bit of the skin that occurs with pregnancy (or obesity). Have you considered doing the tuck, you've done your research I'll give you that.

Sassy,

What's going on with u ? Who's trying to jump u ? I don't get your reason for deleting your post.

The tuck IMO has it's pros & cons, the scar I believe is pretty bad, or at least that's what I've seen on tv.

D, I don't believe Blondie has had any kiddos yet, (as far as I can remember)

I know from excesive weight gain & weight loss you can have some lose skin.
