Pre-Contest Cycle

Thanks. Its exciting to actually see the pictures. I wasn't sure if I was still getting leaner or not. I like that back double bicep pic.

I forgot to weigh myself this morning so I will tomorrow. I dont think im less than 195 tho. I must be gaining muscle while cutting which is good but bad cause I dont think ill make middle weight.

just took progress pics!! It looks nice! I looked at my first pics compared to the pics I took this morning. way more definition and I actually have an idea how to pose now. Looks nice. let me know what you think!

ha, i gotta explain the batman underwear! My girl and I were at target a week ago and saw them, and she said I gotta get them, it would be hilarious to show friends. Now in the past, i would be at a party, and we get into talking about working out, and someone asks if I hit my legs. So I would literally just drop my pants at a party and stand there in my boxers flexing my quads. So anyways, last night we are at my buddies party and I told him I would give everyone a preview of my show, so I was gonna guest pose. I take my clothes off and I'm standing there in batman underwear, they all thought it was fucking hilarious.

you're def progressing but you need some mass. You're starting to look very shallow in most areas. Back especially. May wanna slow down the cardio and add in some carbs to refill.

btw, if any of my friends did that shit at my party they wouldn't be invited back and would probably end up with their ass kicked.

good luck

I cant increase carbs im on a diet....And I know I have pretty good mass. I do lack thickness in my back but that will come with years of training. Otherwise im on track.

I didn't say you don't have decent mass, i said you need more. i'm not knocking you dude. Trying to offer some help. I will say you sound pretty defensive, and if you can't handle constructive criticism, you're in the wrong game. What are you gonna do when a judge tells you the same thing I do?

Look, I'm a former competitor... just because you are prepping doesn't mean you CAN'T do anything to your diet. and it doesn't mean increasing carbs for the rest of your prep, i said refill/refeed.

Yo dude - looking nice & lean - how long before the competition? I'm not a diet guru but you don't want to loose too much too quick.

keep it going bro - train hard!

im just 7 weeks out. Im right on track but my weight loss has stopped so i just upped my cardio to about 4 days a week. its low intensity so i shouldnt have to worry about burning up muscle. im about 196, and i need to get down to ~180 before losing water weight. so 10+ lbs of fat in 6 weeks. i gotta get workin.

Barrysanders, how much prami and aromasin are u using for your cycle?

Sorry, I just now checked your log again. If you need any advise please let me know.

Also, pics are looking great. I would focus on some isolation for the biceps (getting a little higher peak than you have). I agree, the back double bicep look great. Throw up a pic of your triceps if you could.

Are you doing low carb diet to cut??? How many carbs are you intaking in a day???

ohh yeah i forgot about a tricep pose. i'll have to take one soon.

im carb cycling, 5 day rotation just like my workouts (4 on 1 off) so it looks like this, 250g carbs, 220g, 175, 150, 100. my low carb day is my rest day. I was doing cardio on my rest days but then i realized i was going to the gym 7 days a week and i was getting super tired. I recently upped my cardio to 4 days a week, but i dont do cardio on rest days and quad days right now.

how tall are you? You don't look 196.

and if i can suggest, be careful shooting for a target weight if you can. Thats a surefire way of losing too much to fast. Wherever you look the best is where you should come in, even if its in another class.

Im 5'9". And im hoping to hit middleweight. Cut off is 176. Its gonna be close. I will not sacrifice muscle to get there. Hopefully I just get lean enough. If I hit middleweight there is a good chance I could take my class. If I hit light heavy I should still do well but it will be tougher. But ya, whatever I come in at is what it is. I refuse to sacrifice muscle to get there. Its too hard to build lol.

By my subtraction, that is 16 lbs before losing water. You definitely have 10 lbs to lose. But to lose 16 plus 4 of water will be pretty rough. You don't have enough time to lose 16 lbs without losing some muscle.

I haven't competed in 20 years, but I did well "back in the day". I'm happy to help any way I can.

dude, thats 20lbs!! now way you are doing that without looking like a strung out crackhead.

One more thing, and just trying to be honest as these forums tend to blow peoples head up wayyyy too much (its happened to all of us). You have no idea who is gonna show up in this show. I will tell you if you make MW, you ain't winning shit. You will be too flat, don't care how lean and dry you are. The MW winner at my last show was 5'7" and 170 and looked enormous. Almost smoked the overall winner.

Also, its great to have confidence, but again, thinking you got a shot at winning before you see the comp is setting yourself up for failure. Again, no one says this shit to people on boards and they go in thinking they are a lock b/c they hear "damn dude you got this" a million times in a thread from some sloppy fucks on the internet.

Have confidence, but don't get cocky cuz you will get your ass handed to you by the most unlikely winner.

me personally i would shoot for LHW and come in as full and dry as you can. You're pretty damn lean now, you don't have enough mass to support MW.

Im.not too worried about what weight class I fall in. I want to just look my best and ill weigh what I weigh. My trainer, whom is a pro natural bodybuilder would like me to shoot for middleweight. But im not gonna sacrifice muscle to get there. I figure if im a mw ill definately be cut up, but if im a light heavy I would be fine with that cause then atleast I could say I had that much muscle mass to be a light heavy. And if im a lean 180, that's a pretty big dude so I would be happy with that. I will be one of the smaller guys in my class but that doesnt mean I wont place if im conditioned and my posing is on.

And I want to be confident because thats a huge part of it. But obviously I dont want to set myself up for dissapointment either. Either way, I should do well. I realize this is just my first show.

nothing wrong with being confident. sounds like you got the right mindset.

good luck.

cheppallet, not that I can't take constructive critisism, but it seems like your posts aren't really useful to me. you're not telling me anything I don't know, besides trying to balance out the other posts so my head doesn't get too big. I realize it's my first show. More than likely I'm not gonna take it because its a pretty big show. I do expect to do well, and I don't see why I woudln't atleast do well. I plan to get as shredded as I possible can, without losing muscle mass if I can help it.

Whatever weight I come in at is the weight I'll be. hoping it will be MW because i'll probably look bigger, and plus that weight class usually has younger/newer guys because they haven't had the time to build all the muscle mass that the other guys have. Hopefully i don't end up standing next to a guy who is 5'5" that weighs the same as me lol. But typically, that's not the case. who knows who will show up day of the show tho. Either weight class i'm fine with, and like i said, if im a LHW that will be cool too because then atleast my first show i came in as a LHW which is pretty good sized. And hopefully after a successful bulking period, i come back next yr 20lbs heavier and with some experience and see how I do then. I am trying to stay confident, but keep it real.

And my trainer is very successful and he is a natural guy, and a few yrs ago he placed second overall in my show (NPC) and he is close to my size. So I figure using his diet and techniques, he should get me to look very good, because he looks really good on stage even as a natural guy standing next to the juicers. Which is also why I have decided not to use clen for this cycle against most guys opinions. I figure my trainer will get me shredded enough, and its my first show, i don't need to over-do it.

What you quoted above is exactly why i was offering the advice. To balance out your head getting too big and you feeling disappointed when you didn't win. You went from thinking you would 'take your class' to now thinking you will 'do well'. Which is what i was trying to help with. So from where i sit it appears i did tell help you.

Its not my show, but it is your first so you have no idea what to expect. Much like i didn't my first show. The first moment you think a 5'5" guy won't show up that weighs what you weigh, he will. I don't understand why you would come to this type of place if you only wanted to hear good things. Again, its constructive criticism.

Stop being so defensive. I never said you wouldn't do well. This is what these types of message boards are for.

alright, sounds good. I understand where you're coming from.

So to give everyone an update of what's going on thus far and what my thoughts are:

first, im about to do another injection today. Still doing the 100 test, 100 mast, and about 80 tren. I am only pinning glutes with the test and tren, and mast i am moving between lats and shoulders. I didn't want to be sticking just glutes eod, but i refuse to do quads anymore lol. So far it's been going well. I have been able to hit legs hard again and have been feeling pretty good. I feel like my legs are growing again. When I was pinning quads, for some reason it was crippling me haha.

And I'm learning the hard way that i REALLY need to lift super light while dieting. evidently I'm not like ronnie coleman and can lift heavy all the way up to the show. My last chest day I was doing incline barbell and I was repping 255 for 8 reps. I figure I was hitting 8 reps so its fairly light, as opposed to doing a weight for 4 reps. Well it was a hard 8, and on one of the reps on the way down, i sprained a muscle in my left rotator cuff. That was pretty scary because I don't want any serious injuries and a guy at my gym is getting surgery on his rotator cuff right now because he tore it. So fortunately its already feeling way better, so I'm assume I just sprained a muscle, and i'm going to take it super easy on it. But it was definately scary.

I've also had to deal with low back pain on and off for the last yr. Recently the chiropractor pointed out that everytime I see him my hamstrings are super tight, so we think the pain is related to that. So i've been stretching the hell outta my hams every day and its been getting better.

Im trying to lift a lot smarter now and way lighter because Im too young to be getting inured, and i have a show coming up so I don't want to be set back. and the biggest thing is that I plan to do this the rest of my life, so I can't be getting inured right now. So i'm definately swollowing my ego, and i'm going to lift lighter weights and just squeeze every rep and get an insane pump. After all, as a bodybuilder, thats all that matters.

This diet has definately given me a whole lot more respect to every bodybuilder out there, because dieting is 10x harder than it sounds. I ate fairly clean before, so i figured it would be tough, but not this tough! All day all I can think about is how much I just want to eat lol. I want to eat a lot and I want some junk food. But I've been sticking to the diet so that's good.

I have a lot of random thoughts and info on whats going on so I figure i would share. I also am stocking up already for my next bulking cycle which I plan to start around october. Im hoping since I've learned a lot more about how to really eat and how to grow, hopefully after my show I can get up to about 220 naturally before jumping back on. I'm hoping I can see some solid gains by just eating and traning smarter, and I think it's possible, because I have never knew so much about nutrition. I haven't decided what exactly the cycle will look like, but i'm getting a bunch of test, deca, dbol, and anavar. I was also thinking some tren e but i don't think it will be necessary. It's such a harsh drug anyways.

Oh, another note about my incline benching injury. I started to think about it, and none of the big guys at my gym ever even do incline barbell. I was talking to a guy and he said it just puts the shoulders in such a vulnerable position for injury. They do either incline DB, incline smith, or the hammer machines. And I was looking in my bodybuilding encyclopedia at all these pro's chest workouts, and out of like 10 guys, only 1 did incline barbell, the rest used DB, smith, or hammer strength. So I'm learning. I will probably do incline barbell once in a while, but with SUPER light weight and just to get full range of motion and squeeze. But from now on i'll stick to the other stuff. Seems safer.
